Do you enjoy creating a friendly, clean space?  Are you good at helping people feel comfortable?

As a Basic Needs volunteer, you will help people take care of their most basic needs by managing the flow of our laundry or shower services.

Some of the key responsibilities for volunteers in the laundry and shower services include:

Communicate with staff to manage appropriate entry to this area Greet guests warmly Use wipe boards to mark laundry machines and showers in use Provide complimentary supplies (towels, toiletries, detergent, fabric softener, etc.) Communicate supply needs to staff Clean routinely following Oak City Cares protocols Work with a team of staff and volunteers to manage a steady flow of services

As a Weekend Volunteer, you are a big difference maker in creating a warm, hospitable place for our guests who come to Oak City Cares for a weekend meal and a sense of community connection.

You do not need to bring anything or provide any food for this role.

       

Some of the key ways you will help are:

Greet and engage with guests Assemble or bag prepared meals Help distribute meals to guests Clean tables, kitchen area, and patio spaceServe coffee Sort and organize weekend meal or basic needs supplies Help with room set up or breakdown as needed

FIRST-TIME VOLUNTEERS: Please click RESPOND below. You will be asked to create an account, and to read and sign two forms which qualify you to volunteer.

FOR GROUPS: To volunteer/sign up a group, each person must create their own account by clicking RESPOND, and then signing two forms. Then, your group leader can click RESPOND AS A TEAM, and sign y'all up together.

FOR MINORS: If you are signing up a MINOR, please know you or an adult must accompany them on site for the duration of their volunteering. To register yourself and a minor, click RESPOND AS A TEAM, Name your Team, click "Add Me", check the "Leader" box by your name, and then where it says "Reserve Additional Slots", select "1" (or however many minors you are registering). Click "Continue", choose the shift you want to sign up for, and click Finish.

If you and a group of friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, or community members would like to prepare a meal for 300 of our friends experiencing homelessness, this is a great opportunity to make this holiday even more meaningful!

Calling all communicators!

Are you social? Do you enjoy attending events for a great cause? Would you like to help spread the word that no one should experience homelessness alone?

As part of the Community Engagement Crew, you will be called on occasionally (3-5 times annually) to represent Oak City Cares at community table events.

These events range from baseball games to tree lightings. They do include weekend and evening opportunities. They all involve hosting a table with info on Oak City Cares and sharing  with the general public details about our mission, volunteering and donating.

These projects might include touring our facility, scheduling a lunch and learn, hosting a collection of needed in-kind items for service, assisting us with sorting and organizing on-site, or campus clean up outdoors.  We can work with your team lead to find the best fit for your company.
