Do you enjoy creating a friendly, clean space?  Are you good at helping people feel comfortable?

As a Basic Needs volunteer, you will help people take care of their most basic needs by managing the flow of our laundry or shower services.

Some of the key responsibilities for volunteers in the laundry and shower services include:

Communicate with staff to manage appropriate entry to this area Greet guests warmly Use wipe boards to mark laundry machines and showers in use Provide complimentary supplies (towels, toiletries, detergent, fabric softener, etc.) Communicate supply needs to staff Clean routinely following Oak City Cares protocols Work with a team of staff and volunteers to manage a steady flow of services

Do you enjoy sharing kindness?

As a Welcome and Hospitality volunteer, you'll be one of the first faces greeting guests at this innovative downtown multi-services center for people experiencing homelessness.

You will help create the warm, friendly, welcoming atmosphere that helps our guests come to trust our services and partners.  During the winter months, volunteers will serve coffee right as we open to ou guests. During the summer months, volunteers will hand out refreshing cups of Gatorade in the afternoon.


In serving beverages, and answering general questions, you will get a chance to meet some pretty interesting people.

As a Weekend Volunteer, you are a big difference maker in creating a warm, hospitable place for our guests who come to Oak City Cares for a weekend meal and a sense of community connection.

You do not need to bring anything or provide any food for this role.

       

Some of the key ways you will help are:

Greet and engage with guests Assemble or bag prepared meals Help distribute meals to guests Clean tables, kitchen area, and patio spaceServe coffee Sort and organize weekend meal or basic needs supplies Help with room set up or breakdown as needed

FIRST-TIME VOLUNTEERS: Please click RESPOND below. You will be asked to create an account, and to read and sign two forms which qualify you to volunteer.

FOR GROUPS: To volunteer/sign up a group, each person must create their own account by clicking RESPOND, and then signing two forms. Then, your group leader can click RESPOND AS A TEAM, and sign y'all up together.
